Transformation of a Flemish house into a co-living space

Pour le foyer du projet, l’architecte d’intérieur a proposé la création d’une vaste cuisine ouverte en prolongement d'un séjour lumineux. Ce vaste espace partagé est conçu comme un lieu de rencontre et de partage, de structuration de la vie commune et comme le point de rencontre des différentes chambres.
La rénovation se conçoit comme un travail attentif sur l’existant, proche d’un jeu d’équilibre entre conservation et transformation. Les éléments caractéristiques du bâti flamand ancien (poutres apparentes, cheminée en brique) sont identifiés, révélés et préservés, afin de maintenir l’identité des lieux tout en l’adaptant aux besoins des colocataires.
For the heart of the project, the interior architect designed a large open-plan kitchen extending from a bright living room. This generous shared space was conceived as a place for gathering and interaction, structuring communal life and serving as the meeting point between the different bedrooms.
The renovation was approached as a careful intervention on the existing structure, balancing preservation and transformation. Characteristic elements of the traditional Flemish building, such as exposed beams and the brick fireplace, were identified, highlighted and preserved in order to maintain the identity of the place while adapting it to the needs of the co-living residents.
